Game changing wisdom, stories that will blow you away

The Mango Girl is Ava’s dramatic and inspirational story of growing up with poverty and abuse, barefooted on the streets of Jamaica selling mangoes from a basket on her head. It tells of her escape and journey towards healing and the choices she made that have moulded her into the inspirational woman she is today. The Mango Girl is optioned as a feature film.

“I wrote the Mango Girl to show people that they can overcome the worst devastation and live lives that are truly glorious.” – Dr Ava Eagle Brown.

In this courageous story of growing up in one of the poorest areas of Jamaica, Ava Brown learned the life lessons of perseverance and survival. From a young age, Ava’s self-taught belief that she was destined for more then the community's recreational activities of sex, raising babies and going to the farm gave her the courage to forge a very different path than the one expected of her.

Her story starts in a poor rural area, where the need to find food often won out over school attendance, and follows her journey through her adolescent years, which were encased in the dark shadows of incest and sexual abuse, to her young adult years when the event of being held at gunpoint finally led her to flee her home country in order to save her sanity.

Yet, her resilience and love for her native country allowed her to see all of her harsh and disappointing experiences as stepping stones to becoming a strong and self-reliant woman, one who is capable of helping our society to break the cycle of poverty and its effects. Using the metaphor of the bamboo, her childhood experiences gave her strong roots to grow but made her tough and bendable like the bamboo plant, she is also like a fern, vulnerable but with a huge capacity for survival. You will experience her triumphs, setbacks and trials. Bamboo & Fern will break your heart, before it makes you smile. Be prepared for a rollercoaster ride that breaks hearts, will undoubtedly motivate, Inspire and fuel the desire for change.

Stories of resilience, survival, perseverance, tenacity and drive - of people overcoming terrible pain and changing their mindsets to lift themselves from the ashes and inspire others.

Lisa Nichols’ review of The Journey To Purpose:

“Our human spirit is unbreakable…it’s unshakeable and it’s unavailable to our circumstance.

It’s unavailable to the challenges in our relationships. Our human spirit is unavailable to the challenges attached to our parents or our children, our human spirit is not focused on where we grew up or how we grew up or our financial conditions.

Our human spirit is simply waiting on a command that says – What is the next great thing that you want to do? Ava’s book from The Journey To Purpose exemplifies the power and the strength of our human spirit. She has eloquently compiled a collection of stories of unshakeable souls, unbeatable spirits and extraordinary individuals who remind us of our ability to rise above our no matter what our current situation and to move with grace and ease, or fighting, kicking and scratching whichever way we find necessary until our next best version of ourselves emerges.

Ava is a change agent and a game changer. Her life is a living, breathing example of what is possible when you decide to become resilient, determined and unstoppable.

This book is a great reminder that there are many other souls, brothers and sisters out there like you. That have had to come through something, climb over something, crawl under something or knock something down…to get to their next best version of themselves.

In these pages if you can be only reminded of one thing be reminded that you are not alone.”
